Oklahoma high school basketball tournament primer for January 16-21

The biggest tournament week of the Oklahoma high school basketball regular season has arrived.

Across the state, teams are gearing up for county and conference matchups. Here’s an overview of the tournaments that start Monday:

Grady County Tournament

When: Monday-Saturday

Where: Verden

City-area contenders: Dibble, Minco and Lexington

Top teams: The girls bracket features Amber-Pocasset, the No. 3 team in Class 2A. The Panthers are 15-1 and carry a 13-game win streak into the tournament. On the boys side, Minco (8-5) enters the tournament as the No. 20 team in Class 2A. Point guard Kade Anthony is Minco's leader in scoring, rebounding, steals and assists.

Sixty-Six Conference Tournament

When: Monday-Saturday

Where: Okemah

City-area contenders: Chandler, McLoud and Meeker

Top teams: Prague is the team to beat on the boys side. With star seniors Blestin Miller and Drew Hunter, the undefeated Red Devils enter the tournament as the fourth-ranked squad in Class 3A. But McLoud could also make some noise, striving to avenge two early-season losses to Prague if they meet in the finals. With leading scorer Luke Norwood, junior Dorrian Matlock and senior twins Jacob and Luke Jordan, McLoud (10-3) is ranked 15th in Class 4A.

In the girls bracket, host school Okemah is the top team. The Panthers (10-2) are ranked 12th in Class 2A and have a six-game win streak.

West Central Tournament

When: Monday-Saturday

Where: SWOSU (Weatherford)

City-area contenders: Calumet

Top teams: The girls bracket features a trio of ranked Class A teams: No. 9 Arapaho-Butler, No. 11 Canute and No. 13 Hydro-Eakly. Arapaho-Butler defeated Canute twice earlier in the season, and they have potential to meet in the championship game.

Calumet sits atop the boys bracket with a 16-1 record, ranked seventh in Class B. Hunter Arnold leads Calumet with 18.1 points per game.
