Oklahoma high school boys golf: Takeaways from the first day of the 2022 state tournament
The 2022 Oklahoma high school boys golf state tournaments started Monday at five sites across the state. Here's a look at what happened:
Class 6A: Jenks, Edmond North battling on top
Jenks and Edmond North were consistent.
The Trojans shot identical rounds of 308 while the Huskies did the same, sand shooting two scores of 309, on the opening day of the Class 6A boys golf state tournament at Jimmie Austin in Norman. Jenks leads Edmond North by two strokes with 18 holes remaining to decide a champion.
On the hottest day of the year thus far, Jenks and Edmond North paced the field, but Norman North is only five shots back with Stillwater within 10 strokes, as well.
Stillwater sophomore Grant Gudgel shot the only under par round in the afternoon, a 2-under 70, to take a two-shot lead over Norman North's Leyton Kyle in the race for the individual crown.
Edmond North's Carson Blaser and Norman North's Jake Hopper are tied for third four shots behind Gudgel. Last year's individual champion, Owasso senior and Kansas State signee Ben Stoller, is tied for fifth only five shots off the pace.

Class 5A: Duncan leads at home
Duncan seems to be playing comfortably.
It has opened up a 16-shot advantage over second-place Tulsa Kelley after the opening day of the Class 5A state tournament. Altus sits in third with McGuinness and Carl Albert behind.
In the individual competition, Altus' Gunner Hamon has a one-shot lead against Duncan's Caden Stevens. Tulsa Kelley's Will Hennessey is tied for third with Noble sophomore Parker Payne, who won the tournament last year in Tulsa, three shots behind.
Class 4A: Heritage Hall opens up big lead
Heritage Hall leads the Class 4A state tournament at Boiling Springs in Woodward after the first day.
The Chargers have a 38-stroke lead over second-place Tulsa Cascia Hall. Tulsa Holland Hall is third and Perkins-Tryon, which was in second after the first 18 holes, is in fourth. Kingfisher sits fifth, fourth strokes behind Perking-Tryon.
In the individual competition, Tulsa Holland Hall's Drew Mabrey leads the field at 2-over 144. Cascia Hall's Will Sides is in second one shot back. Heritage Hall's Matthew Smith is six shots behind in fourth.

Class 3A: CHA, OCS lead the way
There's a pair of familiar names at the top of the leaderboard following the first 36 holes of the Class 3A state tournament.
Defending state champion Christian Heritage leads defending state runner-up Oklahoma Christian School by six strokes after the first day at Lakeview Golf Course in Ardmore. The two teams have run away from third-place Crossings Christian in pursuit of the title.
OCS junior Ryder Cowan, an OU commit, shot a second-round 6-under 65 and leads teammate and fellow junior Bryant Polhill by two strokes stroke. Cowan is at 135.
Christian Heritage's Gavin Watson is in third, nine strokes off the pace. Community Christian's Collin Bond is solo fourth after a 146.

Class 2A: Latta, Stroud's Bryce Wolff lead after first day
Latta is only 18 holes away from a state title.
Latta leads the team competition by 34 shots after a first day 632 team score at Buffalo Rock in Cushing. Nowata is in second with Turpin third. Cashion and Tishomingo are tied for fourth.
Stroud's Bryce Wolff leads the individual competition by 11 shots at 139, which is 1-under par. Latta's Parker Pogue and Tipton's Conner Cryor are tied for second.
