Guthrie softball coach Blakley celebrates 200th win

Booker Blakley reached a milestone Monday evening.

The Guthrie High School softball team defeated the Oklahoma City Broncos, 2-0, to give coach Blakley his 200th victory. GuthrieNewsPage first reported his accomplishment, sharing a photo on Twitter of Blakley. He grinned as he held up a celebratory gift: a framed photo of the softball team featuring players’ signatures and the line “Coach Blakley 200 Wins.”

With the memorable victory, the Class 5A Bluejays improved to 19-7.

Mount St. Mary volleyball wins Chisholm Trail Conference Tournament

The Rockets are still undefeated.

Mount St. Mary’s volleyball team holds a 31-0 record after a first-place finish in the Chisholm Trail Conference Tournament on Saturday. Sophomore Gia McGrew was honored as the tournament MVP, while junior Ally Fees was named the regular-season conference MVP.

The All-Conference first team also included Maria Roquemore and Liv Ward of Mount St. Mary, Landry Braziel and Stella Gorton of Community Christian, Ruth Tullis and Ella Carter of Oklahoma Christian School, Jordyn Reid and Avery Ausley of Bethany, Mackenzie Heightley of Heritage Hall, and Natalie French of Christian Heritage Academy.

Bishop McGuinness volleyball places first in home tournament

The Bishop McGuinness volleyball team successfully defended its home court.

The Fighting Irish placed first in the gold division, or the winner’s bracket, of the Bishop McGuinness Varsity Tournament on Saturday, while Carl Albert won the silver division.

Outside hitter Grace Smallwood was recognized as the tournament MVP, and Taylor Vann and Rachel Tate represented Bishop McGuinness on the all-tournament team.

➤ Keeley Parks, a sophomore guard on the Norman High School girls’ basketball team, landed an offer from Oklahoma following a visit during the past weekend.

➤ Tulsa NOAH edge rusher Daniel Okoye now holds offers from half of the football teams in the Big 12 Conference, including OSU and OU. The junior announced Monday morning that he had secured an offer from Baylor.

➤ Parker Friedrichsen, a four-star shooting guard on Bixby High School’s boys’ basketball team, announced his commitment to Notre Dame in a Tuesday ceremony. The senior had committed to Oklahoma State but reopened his recruitment in May.

➤ Former Carl Albert catcher Houston Russell announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Monday evening. Russell, a class of 2021 recruit, spent his freshman season at Seminole State Junior College, where he posted a batting average of .293 and an on-base percentage of .468. His stat line included 17 RBI, 27 hits, seven home runs and two doubles. As a high school senior, Russell was named to The Oklahoman’s All-State first team. He propelled Carl Albert to a Class 5A state title, finishing the season with a .423 batting average, seven home runs and 46 RBI.
