Oklahoma man convicted in Muskogee Co. murder

HASKELL, Okla. (KFOR) – A man has been convicted of murder in Muskogee County District Court in connection to a case from 2021.

According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a missing person in Haskell on November 16, 2021.

Officials say 43-year-old Tamera Ellison Banks had not been seen or heard from since the day before. Tamara also had a protective order against her husband, Dayan Banks, due to a domestic violence situation on October 23, 2021.

On November 17, 2021, the Muskogee Co. Sheriff’s Office requested the OSBI’s help in investigating the case. This case would then turn into a two-year investigation, which led to the discovery that Tamara had been murdered in Haskell.

On January 29, 2024, Dayan Banks was convicted of Murder in the First Degree and Desecration of a Human Corpse. The jury suggested he receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murder and an additional seven years for the desecration charge.
