Oklahoma man who led police on high-speed pursuit gets federal prison term

A woman has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a Tecumseh teenager.

A Harrah man who led police on a wild vehicle chase in January was sentenced this week to 15 years in federal prison.

In Oklahoma City federal court, Hunter Eugene Berry, 23, faced a two-count indictment, charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and with possessing a stolen firearm.

He pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On Jan. 5, law enforcement responded to reports of a reckless driver in northeast Oklahoma County.

Berry, who was driving a stolen vehicle, refused to stop and led law enforcement on a chase that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

Law enforcement and news helicopter pilots watched Berry drive into oncoming traffic and run several vehicles off the road, including a school bus.

Prosecutors said Berry stole a firearm from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in Oklahoma County and later shot at law enforcement.

Records show Berry has previous convictions, including first-degree burglary, which is a felony.

At sentencing, U.S. District Judge Patrick R. Wyrick described the high-speed chase as “horrifying and frightening.”
