Oklahoma Prep Football AP Poll: Verdigris moves up to No. 2 in Class 3A
Sep. 14—Verdigris football elevated to its highest Associated Press ranking in program history, moving up to No. 2 in Class 3A in the Oklahoma Prep Football AP Poll.
The Cardinals (2-0) were a beneficiary of a team ahead of them losing, for Heritage Hall dropped to No. 4 in 3A after losing to 4A No. 4 Clinton 28-7 last week.
Ahead of Verdigris, which received one first-place vote, sits Lincoln Christian, which is 3-0 after thumping 2A No. 6 Vian 42-0.
Coach Travis East's squad will have a chance to back up its ranking this week when it travels to 2A No. 4 Beggs for a battle of top-five teams.
The Golden Demons underperformed Friday night against 2A No. 2 Rejoice Christian, losing 70-16, but it will by no means be easy for Verdigris. Blowout losses have a way of galvanizing talented teams like Beggs, so expect its best effort.
The Cardinals are again the only Rogers County team ranked in the AP poll, but Sequoyah was one of eight teams receiving votes outside of the top 10 in Class 2A. The Eagles were tied with Kiefer and Oklahoma Christian School with nine points apiece.

Points for classes A through 5A are based on 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring. Points for 6A (Division I & II), classes B and C are based on 5-4-3-2-1 scoring.
