Oklahoma Sooners lose by biggest margin since 2019 & more key stats vs. TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Sooners never managed to get momentum on their side Saturday.

No. 18-ranked Oklahoma suffered a 55-24 road loss to TCU. It marked the second straight loss for the Sooners (3-2, 0-2 Big 12).

Here's a look at OU's loss by the numbers.

OU's defense breaks down, TCU capitalizes

2: Junior wide receiver Marvin Mims fumbled the ball on OU's opening drive, and TCU recovered. It marked the second turnover of the season for the Sooners.

4: Max Duggan connected with Savion Williams for a 19-yard touchdown to give TCU a 7-0 with 12:45 left in the first quarter. This marked the fourth straight game that OU's opponent has scored first.

78: Dillon Gabriel connected with Brayden Willis for a 78-yard pass to the TCU 1-yard line with 2:15 left in the first quarter. It marked the longest play by OU this season.

237: TCU recorded 237 yards of offense in the first quarter. It averaged 11.8 yards per play.

17: The Sooners trailed 27-10 at the end of the first quarter. It marked the largest deficit for OU at the end of the first quarter since it trailed Texas 28-7 on Oct. 9.

TCU widens the gap in the second quarter

11: OU had to call Davis Beville's number, 11, midway through the second quarter. The backup quarterback came into the game following the injury to Gabriel, who got hurt on a targeting play by TCU's Jamoi Hodge.

1: Jovantae Barnes scored a 20-yard rushing touchdown that trimmed TCU's lead to 34-17 with 8:49 left until halftime. This marked the freshman's first career touchdown.

62: Duggan connected with Gunnar Henderson on a 62-yard touchdown pass to give TCU a 41-17 lead with 1:34 left until halftime. This marked the third touchdown of at least 62 yards for the Horned Frogs on Saturday.

41: TCU led 41-17 at halftime. It marked the most points OU has allowed at halftime since it allowed 49 points in the first half of a 63-28 loss to LSU on Dec. 28, 2019.

OU's defensive struggles continue

668: TCU recorded 668 total yards of offense. It marked the most yards OU's defense has allowed since it allowed 692 yards to LSU in 2019.

1: OU only recorded one sack on Saturday. This comes after the team didn't record any sacks in the Week 4 loss to Kansas State.

31: The Sooners suffered a 55-24 loss. The 31-point defeat marks the biggest margin of an OU loss since its 35-point loss to LSU in 2019.

Bright spots for the Sooners

2017: Barnes finished with 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. He became the first OU freshman to record two rushing touchdowns in a game since Trey Sermon did so against Baylor on Sept. 23, 2017.

123: Sophomore wide receiver Jalil Farooq returned four kickoffs for 123 yards. OU entered the contest with only 94 total yards on six kickoff returns this season.
