Oklahoma Sooners’ Safety Pat Fields named to Wuerffel Trophy watch list

Watch list season continues. Another Oklahoma Sooner was recognized. Senior safety Pat Fields was named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list earlier this week and was honored for his contributions not only on the field but off it. He is one of 93 players in the running for the Wuerffel Trophy entering 2021. The winner will be announced on Dec. 9.

Fields would become the third Sooner to win the award, following Gabe Ikard (2013) and Ty Darlington (2015).

The Wuerffel Trophy is presented annually to the FBS player that best combines outstanding community service with achievements both on and off the field. The inclusion in the compilation list is a testament to Fields’ leadership and character.

As a captain and cornerstone player on OU’s defense, Fields is often praised by both teammates and coaches for the standard of excellence that he sets. Seen as a role model by his peers, it is not a surprise to see his name on the list of players making an impact across college football.

On the field, Fields has accumulated 122 tackles donning Crimson and Cream in 30 career games. In 2020, he notched an interception and five passes defensed in Alex Grinch’s secondary.

Last season, Fields earned the Cotton Bowl’s Dan S. Petty Scholarship Award for exemplary academics, athletics, and character. He strives to make a difference between the hash marks on Saturdays and in the community. Well deserved placement on the watch list and a guy that is easy to root for.
