STILLWATER — After playing in 109 career games with Oklahoma State, senior guard Avery Anderson III will play his next game elsewhere.

The talented 6-foot-3 guard entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer Tuesday afternoon, a source told The Oklahoman.

It’s unlikely Anderson is the only player to enter the portal from the Cowboys. Point guard John-Michael Wright told The Oklahoman earlier Tuesday that he will return for his final year of eligibility.

In 22 games this season, Anderson averaged 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and a career-high 3.4 assists along with 1.5 steals. But he missed the final 14 games of the season after suffering a left wrist injury that required season-ending surgery.

There was hope that he could have returned for the NIT semifinals had the Cowboys advanced. Instead, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by eventual tournament champion North Texas, finishing the year at 20-16.

Anderson, who was a four-star recruit from Justin, Texas, started 80 games in four seasons. He averaged 9.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He also averaged 1.4 steals while becoming OSU’s top on-ball defender.

He had a breakout season as a sophomore alongside superstar Cade Cunningham. Anderson averaged 12.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 27 games, including 23 starts. He even scored 31 points with Cunningham sidelined due to an injury in a victory at West Virginia to close out the regular season.

But he never quite consistently captured that same scoring ability.

Anderson struggled offensively as a junior but finished the season strong. He was again inconsistent at times this season but scored in double figures in five of his final six games before his season ended.
