Oklahoma State football extends record home win streak & more key stats from win vs. Texas

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State’s Big 12 championship hopes remain firmly alive.

Using a wild comeback on a day full of big plays, the 11th-ranked Cowboys toppled No. 20 Texas 41-34 Saturday evening at a sold-out Boone Pickens Stadium.

OSU is now 6-1 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 play.

Cowboys go streaking

7: Straight wins for the Cowboys following a loss. OSU is also 8-1 in its past nine regular-season Big 12 games.

13: Straight home victories for the Cowboys, which extends the program record.

Up-and-down day for OSU kickers

16: Straight field goals made by OSU kicker Tanner Brown until his 48-yard miss to end the first half. The streak, which dated back to last season, entered Saturday as the longest active in the nation. Brown did make two other field goals from 48 and 40 yards.

1: Touchback by OSU punter Tom Hutton, which happened with 7:04 remaining in the third. It’s his first of the season and just 11th in his career.

OSU’s run game struggles but has big moments

5.5: Yards per rush for the Cowboys, who totaled 143 on the ground. They rushed for 1.9 yards per carry in the opening quarter. OSU also rushed for just minus-1 yard on 11 carries in the third quarter, an average of minus-0.1 yard.

51: Yard touchdown run by OSU running back Jaden Nixon, the longest run of the season for the speedster.

24: Yards on the same run by Nixon after he lost a shoe near the Longhorns’ 35.

3: Touchdown runs by Cowboys running back Dominic Richardson, who later left the game with an injury. He rushed for 24 yards on 13 carries.

Spencer Sanders’ toughness aids pass game

391: Passing yards by OSU quarterback Spencer Sanders, who completed 34 of 57 passes. He also threw two touchdowns.

6: Receptions by Stephon Johnson Jr., a true freshman, for 90 yards. It was a career-high for the Cowboys’ budding star.

133: Receiving yards by OSU’s Bryson Green, including a 41-yard touchdown that gave OSU the final lead.

Defense gets best of Longhorns, even with Bijan Robinson shining

109: Games played between super-senior defensive linemen Brock Martin and Brendon Evers entering the day. Neither played due to injuries, with Evers announcing his season is over due to a shoulder injury earlier in the week.

49: Days between sacks of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers. OSU star Trace Ford sacked him for a 1-yard loss early in the third quarter. The last sack on Ewers was Sept. 3 in the Longhorns’ opener against Louisiana Monroe.

140: Rushing yards for Texas superstar Bijan Robinson. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored on a 42-yard run. He also had a 41-yard TD reception.

14.6: Yards per carry for Texas running back Roschon Johnson, who scored on a 52-yard run late in the first half.

3-17: Third-down conversions for the Longhorns, who started the day 0 for 5.

4-16: On the connection between Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers and star receiver Xavier Worthy, who did score a touchdown.

2: Interceptions by OSU safety Jason Taylor II, bringing his total to three in two seasons against the Longhorns. Last season, he had a game-changing pick six in Austin.

14: Penalties by the Longhorns, totaling 119 yards. OSU had zero accepted penalties, with one being declined and another offset by a Texas penalty.
