Oklahoma State football vs. Iowa State: Broadcast info, betting lines, matchup breakdown

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State is a mess.

There’s no way around that description after two straight dismal performances against Kansas and Kansas State.

But perhaps a return home for a black-out game will do some good for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) host Iowa State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Boone Pickens Stadium aiming to right the ship. The game will be televised on ESPNU.

Scouting Iowa State

Record: 4-5, 1-5 Big 12

Best player: Star receiver Xavier Hutchinson is a matchup nightmare for the Cowboys’ secondary that has struggled against big-play receivers. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound redshirt senior possesses elite speed and can get behind the secondary in a blink of an eye. He’s coming off a huge Saturday in which he caught 10 passes for 123 yards and a 24-yard touchdown in the rout of West Virginia. Hutchinson gave OSU fits a year ago in Ames, Iowa, catching 12 passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns. He even had a touchdown called back for a controversial early celebration penalty.

The case for Iowa State: The Cyclones have more confidence than the Cowboys at this point, especially after scoring 31 points — a season high for conference play — against West Virginia. They rank No. 1 in the Big 12 allowing just 16.3 points per game — a problem for an OSU team that has scored just 16 points total the past two weeks — but last in offense, scoring just 22.7 points. Iowa State’s defense alone could lead the way to a win should OSU’s offense continue to struggle.

The case for OSU: The Cowboys have not lost three straight games since the end of the 2015 season when they dropped the final two regular season games to Baylor and OU before losing the Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss. With that said, OSU is still playing its worst football in years. Should it correct its inability to stop the run game, there is a good chance the offense can get just enough to pull off a much needed victory.
