Oklahoma State vs. TCU football: Five takeaways from Cowboys' rout of Horned Frogs

STILLWATER — On a night when Barry Sanders was being honored, Oklahoma State rushed the ball in a way the superstar running back would approve of.

The Cowboys had eight rushing touchdowns from four different players in a 63-17 rout of TCU on Saturday night at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Jaylen Warren rushed for 113 yards and three scores on just 17 carries. Spencer Sanders threw for 235 yards and a TD, completing 17 of 25 passes.

And most importantly, the 10th-ranked Cowboys moved one win away from clinching a spot in the Big 12 championship game.

Warren goes over 1,000, leaves early

Oklahoma State running back Jaylen Warren had a productive night cut short when he left with an apparent injury early in the third quarter.

The injury did not appear serious, but Warren did not return, with the game well in hand.

Before he left, Warren rushed for 113 yards on 17 carries, scoring three touchdowns. In the process, Warren surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season.

He began the night with 928 yards and finished at 1,041.

In Warren’s place, Dezmon Jackson and Dominic Richardson had two rushing touchdowns apiece. Jaden Nixon added a 63-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Including quarterback Spencer Sanders, OSU had five rushers with at least 50 yards.

Warren registered the 25th 1,000-yard rushing season in OSU history.

Injuries hit offensive line

The Cowboys began the night without left guard Josh Sills, and shortly before halftime, center Danny Godlevske limped off and did not return.

Tyrese Williams started at left guard in place of Sills and Godlevske was replaced by Joe Michalski, a redshirt sophomore seeing his first significant action as a Cowboy.

The injuries didn’t hinder Oklahoma State, which had over 500 yards of offense through three quarters when backup quarterback Ethan Bullock and the second-string offensive line took over.

Malcolm Rodriguez enters top five

Malcolm Rodriguez will end his career in the top five of Oklahoma State’s all-time tackle chart.

The super-senior linebacker came into the game with 366 career tackles and added six for 372, surpassing Sim Drain for fifth on the all-time list. Drain had 369 career tackles.

Next on the list is Leslie O’Neal with 393 tackles. Rodriguez has at least three games remaining in his career.

OSU’s all-time tackle leader is John Corker with 496.

Barry Sanders gets statue, spot in Ring

The night started with a special event hours before kickoff, with the unveiling of the Barry Sanders statue outside the northwest corner of Boone Pickens Stadium.

And halftime brought another special moment. Sanders’ name and No. 21 were unveiled high on the wall in the west end zone in the Ring of Honor.

Sanders, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1988, is the second player to go into the Ring of Honor, along with his backfield-mate Thurman Thomas. Sanders is the only athlete in OSU history with a statue on campus.
