Oklahoma State wrestler A.J. Ferrari released from hospital after car crash

NCAA wrestling champion A.J. Ferrari investigated for alleged sexual assault no longer on OSU team

OSU's A.J. Ferrari released from hospital

Less than 48 hours after a car crash that left him hospitalized for two nights, Oklahoma State wrestler A.J. Ferrari was released from OU Health and was resting at home on Wednesday, Cowboy coach John Smith said.

“He’s home,” Smith said. “Sore. Tender. What you would expect after seeing that car. He’s sore, really sore. Hopefully it’s all from him just getting banged around, and nothing else. They’ll look at him in a couple days and see if we need to do anything else.”

Ferrari and OSU cross country runner Isai Rodriguez were involved in a head-on collision on State Highway 33 near Perkins on Monday night. Ferrari, who was driving, was airlifted to OU Health in Oklahoma City, where he was treated for various injuries, but had no broken bones.

“Today was the first day he actually got up and walked around,” Smith said. “Day by day, it gets a little better.”

OSU, which qualified for the Women's College World Series in 2021, has outfielder Hayley Busby and pitchers Miranda Elish and Kelly Maxwell on the list.

Another player with Oklahoma ties is on the watch list — Florida State infielder Sydney Sherrill, who starred at Southmoore High School.

Medvedev rallies at Aussie Open

He lost the first two sets, was low on confidence and was one point from a quarterfinal exit at the Australian Open, so Daniil Medvedev asked himself the question: What would Novak do?

Fair question. Top-ranked Novak Djokovic is a nine-time Australian Open champion who finished one win short of a calendar-year Grand Slam in 2021.

Modelling himself after the 20-time Grand Slam champion, Medvedev told himself late Wednesday to make Felix Auger-Aliassime fight for every point.

More than one hour after saving a match point on his serve in the fourth set, the U.S. Open champion finished off a 6-7 (4), 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-5, 6-4 comeback victory almost a half-hour after midnight.

Medvedev mentioned his thoughts about Djokovic during his on-court TV interview and in a later news conference. He wasn't joking.

“I was not playing my best, and Felix ... was all over me,” Medvedev said. “I didn’t know what to do so I (asked) myself, ‘What would Novak do?’

“And I just thought, OK, I’m going to make him work. If he wants to win it, he has to ... fight to the last point.”
