Oklahoma woman indicted for vehicular manslaughter in fatal June crash in town of Newburgh

TOWN OF NEWBURGH - An Oklahoma woman has been indicted for vehicular manslaughter in a fatal June crash on Route 9W that claimed the life of a Kingston woman.

The crash involved a 2023 Kia Forte driven by Nicholle Hoke, 44, of Shawnee, Oklahoma and a 2021 Honda CRV driven by Samuel Daniel-Magos, 50, whose town of residence was not available.

According to Town of Newburgh police, at approximately 10 p.m. on June 24, Daniel-Magos was northbound on Route 9W when he saw Hoke's Kia approaching, driving southbound in the northbound lane.

Daniel-Magos attempted to pull off the road to get out of the Kia's way, but the two vehicles collided.

The first officers on the scene were directed to the Honda, where Daniel-Magos and several passengers were injured.

One woman in the rear seat, identified by police as Laura Chavez-Aralos, 61, of Kingston, was unconscious, and officers began life-saving measures for her.

Chavez-Aralos was treated at the scene and then taken to Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in the city of Newburgh, where she died from her injuries.

An investigation by Town of Newburgh police and the Orange County District Attorney's office, which lasted several months, led to the indictment of Hoke for second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony, in October.

A warrant for Hoke's arrest was issued. She was arrested in Oklahoma and is awaiting extradition to New York, where a future date in Orange County Court is currently pending.

The name of Hoke's attorney was not immediately available.
