Oklahoma has Yelp's No. 1 brunch spot for Mother's Day, plus more recommendations

Mother's Day is a popular day for brunch and according to Yelp, three restaurants in the Oklahoma City metro are among the top 100 in the nation, including one local spot that claimed top honors.

Yelp's recently published list of the "Top 100 Brunch Spots for Mother's Day" looked at restaurants across the country in the "Breakfast & Brunch category with a large concentration of reviews mentioning brunch, then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning brunch, according to the site.

Topping the list at number one was Oklahoma City's own Cafe Kacao, 3325 N Classen Blvd. The restaurant has over 1650 reviews, more than 1200 of them 5-stars.

Also on the list in the metro was number 83, El Huevo Mexi-Diner, 3522 24th Ave NW in Norman and number 100, The Jones Assembly, 901 W Sheridan Ave.

Brunch reservations at The Jones Assembly are filling up fast and El Huevo and Cafe Kacao offer waitlist options, but you may want to plan ahead and show up early if you're trying to get in for a brunch with mom. For more inspiration you can always browse apps like Opentable and Yelp to see what places have availability for reservations.

In addition to the spots chosen by Yelp listed above, there are plenty of other great options to celebrate mom. Here are seven ideas for Mother's Day fun and details on what they have going on.

1. Ostrich Egg Breakfast at the OKC Zoo

If Sunday brunch is not your thing, perhaps a Saturday breakfast followed by a visit with the animals of the Oklahoma City Zoo is how you'd like to celebrate mom. What better way to acknowledge how great she is than with a one-of-a-kind breakfast and an opportunity to see all of the zoos newest additions, which there are plenty of with nearly a dozen babies, cubs, hatchlings and calves born over the last year. Ostrich Egg Breakfast seatings are at 8 and 9:30 a.m. and tickets include zoo admission, breakfast buffet, tram wristband, lorikeet feeding, entry into Stingray Bay and carousel access. A cash bar is available for mimosas and bloody marys.

2. The Penny Project Mother's Day Brunch

This brunch is being hosted at the South OKC Chamber, 701 SW 74th Street, and will benefit The Penny Project, a local nonprofit that aims to reduce infant deaths due to sudden infant death syndrome. The event is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and tickets are $12.

3. Mother's Day at The First National Center

Stock & Bond and Tellers, both located in the First National Center, have limited reservations available through their websites for special meals for Mother's Day beginning with brunch and running through dinner service. Meals include a take-home rose for mom and a Mother's Day card. Tellers's seatings begin at 11 a.m., while Stock & Bond begins service at noon. Both restaurants stop seating at 8 p.m.

4. Mother's Day Brunch at The Skirvin

Book brunch reservations for Mother's Day at The Skirvin, 1 Park Ave., and mom won't forget the buffet of breakfast favorites, omelets, salads, seafood, a carving station, and an entire hallway of desserts. Seatings begin at 11 a.m. and run through 2 p.m.

5. Mother's Day Dessert Cruise on the Oklahoma River

Already made brunch or lunch plans? How about a dessert cruise to show mom how sweet you think she is? Bite size desserts and mimosas at a cash bar await you on this cruise down the Oklahoma River. The cruise is $30 per person with tickets required in advance and two options for departure times, 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Boardings are 15 minutes prior to departure times at 701 S. Lincoln Blvd.

6. Head to Brunch at Picasso Cafe

A few early afternoon reservations remain at Picasso Cafe for brunch. From seared ahi tuna to vegetarian options, great eggs benedict and fried goat cheese that's mouth-watering, there's sure to be something on menu for everyone in your group at Picasso.

7. Book a dinner reservation at Bradford House

Really don't want to do brunch? Bradford house still has some reservations available for dinner Sunday night. Snag them quick and treat mom to one of the many house specialties from gnocchi to scallops to goat cheese "cacio e pepe."
