Oktoberfest is coming to Sacramento. Here’s where you can celebrate German beer and food

It’s the festival for German beer, food and music, and Sacramento’s going all out with several events around the city.

Oktoberfest is an annual festival of beer that originated in Munich, Germany, according to Eater. It dates back to the 1800s and started as a celebration for the wedding of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

Now, people across the globe bring a piece of Munich to their cities with festivities filled with beer, carnivals, games, entertainment and food.

Here’s what Sacramento has in store:

Oktoberfest Midtown Sacramento

3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 30 at 2332 K St.

Der Biergarten in midtown is taking over the block of 24th and K Street to celebrate its annual Oktoberfest with a street party.

There will be live music from the Gruber Family Band, DJ Eddie Z and MC Tommy G, the restaurant stated on its Eventbrite page. The cash-only and 21-and-over event will also have German beer, food and entertainment, as well as games.

Tickets: Start at $20.

Natomas Oktoberfest 2023

2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sept. 30 at 4700 Westlake Parkway

Westlake Community Park is hosting a festival with unlimited beer and live music.

There will also be a California State Steinholding Championship — a strength competition where competitors hold out a full one-liter beer stein — costume contest and beer games, according to the event website.

Tickets: General admission is for people 21 and over and starts at $45. There are VIP tickets for $65, which give you early access to the festival at 1 p.m. and a reserved area.

Oktoberfest at Sacramento Turn Verein

6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Oct. 13 and Oct. 14 at 3349 J St

Sacramento Turn Verein, a German community organization, is hosting Oktoberfest with authentic German beers on tap, wine and traditional German food

It’s the biggest annual Oktoberfest celebration, according to the event website, and will feature a Biergarten, live performances from three bands, activities for kids and German music and dancers.

Tickets: $20 for adults and $5 for kids 6 to 12 years old. Kids under 6 years are free.
