OKWU AROUND THE DIAMOND: Baseball gets 20th win; softball on fire

Oklahoma Wesleyan University baseball and softball teams continue to rip through their competition.

Here are some mid-week reports.

BASEBALL

The Eagles swooped to their 20th win by trimming Southwestern (Kan.), 7-4, in a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference showdown.

OKWU (20-4, 7-1) has won five in a row.

Southwestern proved to be a stubborn challenge, but relief pitchers Carson Frazier and Erick Nova helped shut down a threatening Southwestern uprising late.

On the offensive side, Tommy Davis ripped a double and a solo homer and scored three runs. Hector Manon added a two-run dinger.

A’Darius Council clobbered a triple, double and single, while Drenis Ozuna, Jordyn Smith and Jesus Rojas lashed two hits each.

SOFTBALL

The Lady Eagles (18-4) opened conference play by crushing McPherson, 11-3 and 9-1, in Bartlesville.

OKWU will be back home Saturday to host a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.

In the first game against McPherson, Baylee Knorr terrorized McPherson pitching by hammering a double and three singles.

Lindy Alexander also put a fright in the opposing thrower. Alexander delivered a double, triple and single and drove in six runs.

Maddy Wiese hurled the distance to OKWU, uncorking a seven-hitter, with three runs and three walks allowed and six strikeouts rang up.

The second game relied on a more balanced offensive attack with six different Lady Eagles contributing hits and RBIs.

Knoor, Raegan Rector and Jess Watson drove in two runs apiece. Fayth Hoover belted two singles to pace OKWU’s seven-hit attack.

Salem Liebenthal snapped off a complete-game pitching win, unleashing a three-hitter, with four walks and seven K’s.
