OKWU Eagles soar to 25th victory on diamond

Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s 25th season win proved to be a late-inning flurry to victory.

Southwestern Christian kept the game within striking distance for five-and-a-half innings, prior to OKWU finishing with a 9-0 run the final two innings to record the 11-1 triumph.

Nicholas Chavez belted three singles and a double and drove in three runs to pace the rout. Aaron Gerdes and A’Darius Council each drove in two runs while Josh Logan added a double, single and RBI.

Noah Adams blasted three singles to give OKWU hitting punch just below the power part of the lineup.

Matthew Atencio earned the pitching in five innings of work, scattering three hits and giving up an unearned run. Tucker Grote finished up the final two frames.

OKWU improved to 25-7 on the season and set itself up for a strong push in April.

The Eagles wrap up March with a three-game set this weekend in Lindsborg, Kan., against Bethany University.

Kirk Kelley coaches the Eagles. This is the sixth time in seven seasons he’s guided the Eagles to at least 25 wins.
