Old Bridge GOP Council Vice President Debbie Walker wins mayor's race

Debbie Walker will be sworn in as Old Bridge mayor Jan. 1.

OLD BRIDGE – Republican Council Vice President Debbie Walker defeated Democratic Councilwoman Jill DeCaro to become the township’s next mayor.

Walker received 7,728 votes while DeCaro received 5,725, according to unofficial results.

The results are unofficial until all absentee and provisional ballots are counted.

Republican Mayor Owen Henry did not run for reelection, instead making a bid for a state Senate seat in the 12th District. He was leading by 28% with 75% of the votes counted.

GOP incumbents Anita Greenberg-Belli, Mary Rita Sohor and Erik DePalma defeated Democrats Krista Fischer, Kevin Ahearn and David Merwin in the race for three four-year Council seats.

Greenberg-Belli received 7,495 votes, Sohor received 7,587 and DePalma received 7,602.

Fischer received 5,459 votes, Ahearn received 5,378 and Merwin received 5,537.
