Old City Bagel Company reopens under new ownership in Danville

Dec. 14—DANVILLE — Bagel sandwiches, coffee, baked goods and more will be offered at the Old City Bagel Company on Mill Street in Danville.

Greg Diehl and Amy Williams-Hahn share a passion for bagel sandwiches and have taken on the responsibility of running a favorite shop in the borough.

The bagel shop reopened Saturday, Dec. 9 with a bang. Diehl said they sold more than 400 bagels that first day and things didn't slow down on Sunday.

The shop is currently open Thursday through Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is stocked with 350 bagels a day.

So far, the scones have been a hit and the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich has been the number one seller, according to Diehl.

Cory Poticher, who was in the shop Thursday to pick up lunch, said she was excited to see it reopen in town.

"It's great to have a sandwich shop downtown and something that's not pizza," she said with a laugh. "It's nice to have variety."

The new owners kept the same menu and added a few things including hash browns and bagel chips. Retail items including beanies and t-shirts are also available, Diehl said.

Diehl, who owns several businesses, said he was presented with the opportunity to purchase the business and he and his best friend's wife, Williams-Hahn decided to take on the task.

For Williams-Hahn, a nurse at Evangelical Community Hospital, having a bagel shop has always been a dream in the back of her mind, she said.

"I'm from Delaware and I always thought it would be cool to open a bagel shop," she said. "I've always had it in the back of my mind to open one."

As things progress, the duo plans to have a weekly sandwich special as well as soups and varying baked goods and to eventually expand hours, they said.

As a nurse, learning to run a bagel shop has been a bit of a learning curve for Williams-Hahn.

"I'm learning all new stuff, but it's been fun," she said.

Diehl said the community has been supportive throughout his various business ventures and he hopes to see the trend continue.

"Providing to the community has always been rewarding," he said."I'm hoping for the same thing here."

In the near future, the Old City Bagel Company will have online ordering beginning at 6 a.m. for 6 :30 a.m. pick up and plans to add hours on Wednesdays, according to Diehl.
