Old factory is being demolished

Jul. 20—WINDHAM — Demolition has begun on a former factory building that was the site of a massive fire in March 2019.

Workers from Wiese Construction & Environmental Services Inc. of Norwich began setting up last week and demolition began Monday, Windham Town Manager Jim Rivers said.

"Progress is being made," he said.

The multi- story building, which is at 11 Machine Shop Hill Road., was built in 1908, according to the town property card.

It was partially dilapidated at the time of the fire on March 30, 2019.

The town was granted control over the property through the court Feb. 22.

Rivers said the town is pursuing payment of a lien that is on the property.

He said the owner was given a notice and if he doesn't respond, court action may be

taken.
