Have an old Powerball ticket lying around? It could be worth $50,000 − but you have to hurry

It's time to rummage through your junk drawers or check the pockets of that coat in the back of your closet. If you have one of two nearly year-old winning lottery tickets, you could be $50,000 richer − but you have to hurry, as these tickets, sold in Rhode Island, are about to expire.

One winning $50,000 Powerball ticket sold in Cranston expires on Nov. 2, according to the Rhode Island Lottery. The winning ticket was purchased at Cumberland Farms, 659 Reservoir Ave., Cranston. The winning numbers drawn were 2, 11, 22, 35, 60; PB: 23.

And if you purchased a Powerball ticket at Neon Marketplace, 533 East Main Road, Middletown, with the winning numbers 6, 13, 33, 36, 37; PB: 7, you have until Dec. 3 to claim your $50,000 prize.

Why do lottery tickets expire?

Players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their ticket.

Archives for the past twelve months of drawings can be found on the Rhode Island Lottery's Website Winning Numbers pages. Players can also check their tickets using the free Rhode Island Lottery mobile app or by entering the serial number on the Lottery’s website, rilot.com/ticketchecker.

How to claim a lottery prize?

Rhode Island Lottery Headquarters is open Monday through Friday for prize fulfillment, according to the website.

What happens if no one claims the prize?

Any prizes that go unclaimed will be turned over to the State's General Fund.
