Old Ruby Tuesday on Cox Road torn down to build Chick-fil-A
A Chick-fil-A will replace the former Ruby Tuesday location on Cox Road in Gastonia.
Bessemer City-based A & A Grading & Hauling Inc. began the demolition work to tear down the Ruby Tuesday this past weekend.
The construction company owner Adrian Stinett believes the community's love for Chick-fil-A, along with his, will make for a new busy restaurant in the area.
His construction company will build the concrete building pad and parking lot for the Chick-fil-A.
After finishing, Georgia-based W. H. Bass construction company will take over to build the actual restaurant building, according to A & A project manager Genaro Adame.
The fast-food restaurant will be located right off of I-85 off Exit 21, at the interchange with Cox Road.
It sits on the Ruby Tuesday's former 1.41 acres in between a Starbucks and Olive Garden at 424 Cox Road.
The former restaurant was known for serving steaks and hamburgers, chicken, pasta, ribs, salads and other healthy options from its garden bar.
Ruby Tuesday permanently closed 185 locations in 2020 amid the restaurant's filing for bankruptcy in October 2020, according to a USA Today report.
The new Chick-fil-A may help reduce the two-lane drive-thru traffic from the other three Chick-fil-A locations in Gaston County.
The other Gaston County locations operate at 3350 E. Franklin Blvd., in Gastonia and in two Belmont locations at 801 Park St., and at 925 S. Point Road.
The Chick-fil-A prides itself on being the home of the original chicken sandwich where customers can choose from spicy or original chicken sandwiches, nuggets, waffle fries, milk shakes and more.
Stinett expects to finish the restaurant's building pad and parking lot by the end of January.
