PETERSBURG - The "Grinch" will make an appearance at the Christmas Market in Old Towne this weekend. I wonder if his loyal canine Max will be with him.

The special guest has been busy celebrating the 65th anniversary of Dr. Seuss's classic book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Did you know Dr. Seuss claimed he was the inspiration for his Grinch character?

In my opinion, Mr. Grinch may be a mean one, but underneath all that rough exterior, he is still pretty sweet.

Margetgoers will have a positively "wholightful" time selecting just the right gift from 20 different local businesses at the market presented by River Street Market.

Petersburg: Christmas Market

On Saturday, December 10 at the Christmas Market, there will be great items to choose from for your holiday menus, home decor and gifts, activities for all ages powered by the POP [Power of Produce] Club, and live music performed by Flutist Iris Schwartz and The Legendary Dave and Cole band.

After you finish spreading Christmas cheer, experience the shops and restaurants of Old Towne and visit two other holiday events.

Check out the "Trees of Christmas" exhibit at the recently renovated Petersburg Area Art League [PAAL], one block away from the market. As a fundraiser for PAAL, over 30 locals designed wreaths to sell to support the Arts in Petersburg.

Walk or drive one-half mile from the Christmas Market to see Centre Hill Mansion/Museum's Holiday Showcase. Rooms in the historic home have been decorated by area designers, businesses, garden clubs and a synagogue.

The River Street Market is a blend of arts, produce and culture. Produce is harvested from surrounding counties and often picked each market morning. The producers-only arts and produce market offers fresh produce, nuts, handmade jewelry, honey, jams, fresh meats, eggs, soaps, baked goods, plants, clothing, specialty drinks, pet items and more.

Rain or shine, join in on the excitement between 9 a.m. and noon at 30 River Street in Petersburg across the street from the iconic Farmers Market Building.

Next Saturday, River Street Market will host its Tacky Sweater Market on December 17. Follow River Street Market on Facebook for event information.

If you're feeling a wee bit grumpy and not quite in the Christmas spirit, visit River Street Market and hang out with the green, furry, pot-bellied Dr. Seuss fictional character many have grown to love.
