Ole Miss football QB Jaxson Dart 'a little banged up' after Texas Bowl loss
HOUSTON — Ole Miss football quarterback Jaxson Dart said he's "a little banged up" after the Rebels' 42-25 defeat to Texas Tech Wednesday night in the Texas Bowl.
"I'll be alright, though," Dart added.
Dart stayed down in the end zone after the impact from a Red Raiders' defender forced him into a front flip on a touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Rebels' backup Luke Altmyer entered the game for the ensuing two-point conversion attempt, but Dart was back the next time the Ole Miss offense was on the field.
Dart had been in the injury tent in the first half after taking a shot to his midsection that forced a fumble.
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin was asked postgame whether he considered taking Dart out of the game with the Rebels down two scores late.
"We did," Kiffin said. "He said as soon as he got up that he was fine. They went and checked him in the tent. He came right back because we were hoping we were going to get the onside kick, so I even went in the tent to ask our trainers and they said he was fine to go. He kept playing."
Dart finished with 361 passing yards, three interceptions and two touchdowns.
"I thought he played a little bit like we did," Kiffin said. "Tough at times, but then some very critical mistakes."
