JACKSON, Miss. – A man has been charged with murder in the death of an Ole Miss student this weekend.
Brandon Theesfeld, 22, of Texas, was charged with the murder of Alexandria 'Ally' Kostial, 21 according to a press release issued by the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department Tuesday morning.
Kostial's body was found at 10:23 a.m. Saturday by deputies on routine patrol, according to a previous press release issued by the sheriff's department.
The Oxford Eagle reported Theesfeld was booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center at 3:45 p.m. Monday on a "hold."
Theesfeld was a student in the School of Business Administration and has been suspended from the university, said Rod Guajardo, associate director of strategic communications for Ole Miss.
District Attorney Ben Creekmore was not immediately available for comment Tuesday.
The Lafayette County Sheriff's Department has not returned repeated calls for comment. Calls to the detention center went unanswered.
Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy said Monday that Kostial's body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy. He declined to provide further details at the time.
"We're not releasing anything else yet so we don't compromise the integrity of the investigation and so we can determine who was responsible for this horrible crime," he said.
Kostial was attending summer classes at Ole Miss and working toward a bachelor's degree in marketing, the university previously stated.
A booking photo for Theesfeld was not immediately available, the sheriff's department said in the release. He is expected to appear in circuit court Tuesday morning for his initial appearance.
