On her social media, Olena Zelenska shared her impressions of the meeting with the ecumenical patriarch in Istanbul.

“In Christian tradition, every person is considered to be the image of God,” wrote Zelenska.

“The way Russian army feels about it can be seen every day, in every new crime it commits in Ukraine. And the Russian church also supports military aggression, blessing murderers and tormenters. Obviously, the Christian worldview, morals and values have no real meaning for them.”

“Meanwhile, His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew calls the war against Ukraine nothing but diabolical. And he took such a stand immediately. Back in March, the Ecumenical Patriarchate sent the first humanitarian aid to Ukraine and continues to do so. And its leader further testifies to the anti-human nature of the Russian war.”

“His Holiness constantly prays for peace in Ukraine, takes care of our migrants and refugees around the world," Zelenska said.

During the meeting, which was joined by head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak, Ukraine’s Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko, deputy head of the Office of the President Andriy Sybiga and Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey Vasyl Bodnar, Zelenska had the opportunity to personally thank the patriarch for his support to Ukraine.

"Unlike the aggressor, we know what we are fighting for, we know that we are protecting those we love. Therefore, we will not lose our human face and values. This is the only way to achieve a real victory," she added in her post.
