Olivia Munn opens up about 'horrible' postpartum anxiety on social media

Olivia Munn isn't sugarcoating life as a new mom.

On Wednesday, the 41-year-old took to her Instagram stories to share new postpartum details after giving birth to son Malcolm with parter John Mulaney in November.

"My hips still feel wonky from pushing out a human being," she wrote to her more than 2.7 million followers, adding that her mental health has also taken a toll. "My postpartum anxiety is still here (and horrible), but I got myself up and took my first capoeira lesson today."

"The Newsroom" actress explained that getting back to a physical activity she enjoys has been an asset to her mental health and well being.

"Getting back to martial arts made me feel a bit more like myself. Hope I can keep it up," she concluded.

Just last month, Munn opened up with her fans about another aspect of being a new mom that she has had some difficulty with: breastfeeding.

Munn shared a video to Instagram discussing the obstacles she's faced trying to breastfeed her son with a low milk supply. Through a series of text-on-screen captions, the star revealed she consulted two lactation consultants, tried three different breastfeeding pillows and pumps, nipple ointments, and heating pads as well as lactation teas, cookies, gummies, and soups to try to increase her milk supply.

At one point, Munn said she was drinking litres of coconut water and had even taped a device filled with formula that featured tubes that she could tape to her nipples to help feed her baby, provide skin-to-skin contact and hopefully stimulate milk production.

"None of it worked! I cried and cried," she wrote. "I felt like my body was failing. I worried I wouldn't bond with my baby." But suddenly, she had a change of heart and said, "f—k it."

"Breastfeeding is good... and so is formula," Munn continued."To the mamas out there — do whatever you need to feed your baby and don't let anyone make you feel bad about it."
