Olmsted County sends $3.4 million in new grants to businesses, nonprofits

Feb. 22—Olmsted County has announced $3.4 million in economic relief grants for small businesses and local nonprofits.

Using funds made available in January through the County Relief Funding Program and added county reserves, county staff worked with the Rochester Area Economic Development Inc. and Rochester Area Foundation to identify qualified applicants for grants up to $25,0000.

Qualified businesses were eligible for grants covering up to 50 percent of COVID-related revenue loss, not to exceed $25,000, for businesses that hadn't received past state and county funds, and $20,000 that have been helped one state or county source in the past.

The small-business grant program administered by RAEDI will distribute nearly $2.9 million, and the nonprofit program through RAF will distribute $544,000.

A total of 169 small businesses met the eligibility criteria and were chosen as grant recipients. Of the businesses receiving awards:

— 74 are restaurants, bars, or other places of public accommodation.

— 12 are indoor event companies or entertainment venues.

— 10 are gyms, fitness centers, or other indoor or outdoor exercise facilities.

— 4 are organized sports (adult and youth).

— 2 are outdoor events or entertainment venues (non-drive-in).

— 67 are classified as "other."

Additionally, of these businesses eight are veteran-owned (5%), 44 are women-owned (26%), and 51 are certified as minority-owned (30%).
