Olympia too much for Prairie Central; WFC, Lexington triumph

STANFORD — Prairie Central grabbed a lead in its first at bat but was unable to hold on as host Olympia rolled to a 14-4 victory in an Illini Prairie Conference softball contest Monday.

It looked the the Hawks were ready to break out early as Kenna Skaggs led off the game with a single and Kyla Stephens drew a walk. Katy Curl then doubled to drive in Skaggs and make it 1-0.

Prairie Central loaded the bases with a one-out walk to Lauren Hoselton but a strikeout and a pop fly ended the rally.

The Spartans rallied with an unearned run in the bottom of the first to tie the game, and then erupted for 10 runs in the second to take command.

The Hawks scored two runs in the third inning in an effort to rally. Curl singled with one out Lillie Hogan reached on an error and Hoselton was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Dixie Hogan walked to force in Rylie Galloway, the courtesy runner for Curl, and Lucy Whitfill singled with two outs to plate Hoselton and make it 11-3.

Hoselton led off the Prairie Central fifth inning with a base hit. She scored on Whitfill's two-out base knock.

Olympia closed out the scoring with three runs in the last of the fifth for the final difference.

Curl had three hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Hawks (4-17). Whitfill had two hits and two runs batted in and Skaggs and Hoselton had one hit apiece. Dixie Hogan drove in a run.

Alexandria Hari allowed seven runs, six hits and one walk in 1 1/3 innings in taking the loss. She struck out one. Curl fanned two but yielded four runs, six hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Dixie Hogan allowed three runs, three hits and one walk in a third of an inning.

Seneca 10, Dwight 0

DWIGHT — Seneca produced virtually all the offense in its Tri-County Conference softball game with Dwight Monday. As a result, the Irish topped the Trojans 10-0.

Seneca scored two runs off DTHS starter Samantha Harsh in the first inning. The Irish added a run in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and a pair of two-run frames in the sixth and seventh.

The Trojans (8-8) managed just five hits. Jordan Schultz had a double and single while Alexis Thetard, Rachel Heath and Avery Scheuer each singled.

Harsh allowed 10 runs, 15 hits and four walks and had three strikeouts.

Woodland 3, Henry-Senachwine 0

HENRY — Shae Simons allowed just six hits and a walk in tossing a shutout for Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell Monday. Simons' effort led to a 3-0 victory for the Warriors over host Henry-Senachwine in a Tri-County Conference softball game.

Simons struck out eight in the process and only faced mild trouble in the fourth and seventh innings. She allowed a leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning and then retired nine straight.

In the meantime, Woodland wasn't doing much to help their ace. The Warriors finally broke through in the top of the sixth inning with all three of their runs crossing the plate.

Ella Derossett reached on an error to lead off the WFC sixth and she scored when Cheyenne Burns doubled to center one-out later. Burns took third on a wild pitch and then scored on a wild pitch on a ball four to Cloee Johnston. Johnston made it 3-0 when she scored on Jena Easton's squeeze bunt.

Johnston had two hits while Olivia Chismarick tripled and Burns doubled for Woodland (17-5). Derossett and Kaiden Connor each singled. Burns and Easton each drove in a run.

Lexington 3, GCMS 1

GIBSON CITY — Makayla Ziegler flexed her muscles in leading off the fourth inning and that led to a 3-1 victory for Lexington in a Heart of Illinois Conference softball contest at host Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Monday.

With the game tied at 1-1 heading into the fourth inning, the Minutemen broke the tie when Ziegler went yard on the first pitch. The home run gave Lexington a 2-1 advantage.

Jaya Therien drew a one-out walk in the fifth inning for Lexington. She scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and two outs with Cori Pearce at the plate. With some help from the defense, Grace Getty did the rest by keeping the Falcons in check.

Ziegler got the Minutemen on the board in the top of the first inning with a two-out double that drove in Mackenzie Wesson, who had doubled the batter before.

Ziegler homered, doubled and drove in two runs for the Minutemen (15-5). Wesson had a double and single while Keagle also singled.

Getty struck out 13 in getting the win in the circle. She allowed an unearned run, two hits and two walks.
