A day in the life of a professional figure skater is so much more than glitzy costumes and twirling effortlessly on the ice (though, that is a big part of it!). Mirai Nagasu gives us a peek into her daily wellness and beauty routine. In case you didn’t know, Nagasu was the first American to land a triple axle at the Olympic Games in 2018. Today, the Olympic Figure Skater and Stars on Ice performer packs a lot into her very long days.

Nagasu’s daily look is natural, but full coverage. She starts with a few spritzes of priming spray on her makeup sponge to prep her skin. “I don't know how much to actually put on,” she says, “but I think less is better.” Next, a bit of foundation to even out her complexion. “I go for a natural but not natural look if that makes sense.” While taking us through her makeup routine, Nagasu shares a secret about the bejeweled costumes she wears on the ice. “This is a nasty fact. We don't really wash our dresses because each crystal is hand glued onto the dress and if you were to throw it into the laundry machine, they would all fall off.” Instead, she spot cleans the underarms of her dress to keep it fresh for each performance.

After she finishes her makeup, Nagasu takes us onto the ice in her show with Stars on Ice. The Olympic Skater only has seconds to change outfits between numbers, which is especially hard if you are trying to keep your makeup intact. “So after the businesswoman [costume], I do a very fast quick change because I'm the first number after it.” All that priming keeps her free from melting under the pressure. Post-show, Nagasu can’t wait to scrub her skin clean and go to bed with a fresh face. “When my head hits the pillow after being a professional figure skater, I'm out, lights out, gone.”
