UHRICHSVILLE ‑ Mayor Mark Haney has appointed Douglas O'Meara to serve as city law director effective May 29.

The Dover resident will replace James J. Ong, who has been appointed as judge of Tuscarawas County Court/Southern District by Gov. Mike DeWine. Ong will replace Judge Brad Hillyer, who retired in January.

Ong, a Dennison resident, has served Uhrichsville for several years as an appointed law director.

O'Meara, 72, currently serves as Dover law director in a four-year term that runs through Dec. 31. He was defeated in the primary election by Dover Councilwoman Gina Space.

O'Meara has been Dover's law director since 2007. He has been an assistant Tuscarawas County prosecutor and Uhrichsville's assistant law director and law director. He is a graduate of Ohio University and the Case Western Reserve Law School.
