Down the white rock road and through the whimsical salmon wall—protected by the oh-so-secret password “margaritas!” of course—you will find a magical chateau ready to set an outrageous standard for all your vacations to come. For $430 a night, you and your seven closest friends can spend your days surfing and swimming and sunning on the Riviera Nayarit, which is no less fabulous for being self-named, and your evenings ensconced in a world of bright colors and sumptuous accommodations.
Sayulita has all the trappings of a tropical paradise—the yoga gurus, the surf bums, the fresh fish, the long days with nothing and everything to do. While you’ll definitely want to take advantage of these features, you’ll first have to tear yourself away from the paradise that is your own vacation home.
Casa Dos Chicos was renovated by an Italian architect and designer and his partner who specialize in turning existing properties into special vacation rentals. It’s nice of them to share. If this were our creation, we’d want to keep all to ourselves.
We’ve never met a wall that wouldn’t benefit from a few artisanal masks. As an additional bonus, they might also scare the bejesus out of your friends when they stumble across them in the dark after a mezcal-filled evening.
You don’t need to be staying in an English castle to find the pretty, pretty princess bed of your dreams. Go to sleep swathed in pink and wake up with visions of neon cocktails and sparkling aqua water dancing in your head.
Sayulita is a well-known hippie haven that has seen its fair share of A-list visitors (hello, Gwyneth), but has also managed to fly under the radar of the hoards of tourists who visit Mexico each year. But that’s all about to change as travel aficionados have dubbed the region the next “it” destination in Mexico. Be a trendsetter and book your trip before the crowds descend.
Each of the four bedrooms comes with an en-suite bathroom and a very distinctive design. You can fight your fellow travelers for your favorite look or play musical rooms each night and try them all.
This bathroom has all the spirit of an outdoor shower, with all the modern amenities of indoor plumbing. That’s a win-win.
This rental is all about the open-air living—open windows, open doors, and plenty of living spaces that have done away with walls entirely. With all this fresh air, you just might find yourself morphing into a replica of Matthew McConaughey’s Moondog. (Queue the high times and poetic verse.)
The sun reportedly shines 90 percent of the year on this #blessed coast of Mexico. All the better to spend your time lolling around on hammocks and enjoying the view of the Sierra Madres on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other.

We have it on good authority from the property reviews that the pictures, as glorious as they are, don’t do this villa justice. If that’s the case, we’re concerned that the real thing might be too much to handle.
Fish tacos, ceviche, fresh lobster—it’s almost a commandment that you eat all the seafood you can while feasting in the Pacific Ocean. In even better news, these dishes—well, really, every dish—pairs perfectly with tequila.
All food prep takes place in the open-air kitchen on the roof. But you’re off the clock…feel free to outsource all the chopping and sautéing to someone who will make the ingredients shine.
It’s important to have your own private little oasis for those times when the beauty of the beach just isn’t cutting it.
The good news is this is going to be a vacation that you and your fellow travelers will talk about for years to come. The bad news is, returning to the real world after staying at Casa Dos Chicos is going to be harder than usual.
