COVID-19: Here's where you can get tested in Green Bay, Brown County

GREEN BAY - Brown County Public Health will close its COVID-19 community testing site on April 30.

The Brown County community COVID-19 test site at the fairgrounds, 1500 Fort Howard Ave., has been offering free COVID-19 testing to the public Wednesdays through Sundays.

You can register for your appointment online but it's not required. It may "speed up your visit with test results usually provided within 24 hours," Brown County Public Health said in a Facebook post.

The community testing site was being offered by the county and in partnership with the state Department of Health Services and Accelerated Clinical Laboratories. The site will be open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday. The PCR test will be administered.

Go to www.stayhealthbc.com for alternate testing locations or call 920-448-6400 and choose option 3.

You do not have to be experiencing symptoms to be tested. No insurance or identification is required. More information is on the Brown County website.

The federal government has a website where you can order free testing kits. The federal website, COVIDTests.gov, directs people to a U.S. Postal Service site. You are supposed to be able to get four kits per address and they should arrive within seven to 12 days.

Meanwhile,if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have you been in close contact with someone with the disease, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services advises that you get tested, even if you are fully vaccinated.

The state of Wisconsin has partnered with local health departments, community testing sites, pharmacies and health care providers to offer testing. The type of testing available and the minimum age requirement for testing varies by site.

Check with the COVID-19 test provider for availability and schedule an appointment or preregister, as required. Additional information on community testing sites also is available on the Wisconsin DHS website.

Many hospitals have stressed that patients shouldn't go to a hospital emergency room for a COVID-19 test. "Emergency rooms throughout the state are under extreme stress due to surging COVID-19 cases as well as regular, seasonal increases in demand for medical services," the Wisconsin Hospital Association said in a news release Jan. 10. "Patients seeking COVID-19 tests at hospitals not only delay the provision of urgent care in emergency rooms, but also raise the risk of virus spread among medically vulnerable patients."
