New all-in-one, 100,000-square-foot medical facility opens its doors in Clifton

CLIFTON — Summit Health/CityMD officially opened its sparkling new 100,000-square-foot primary and specialty care facility on Broad Street on Tuesday.

For prospective patients, it means the facility is offering a number of services, urgent, primary and specialized care, under one roof.

For Summit Health and CityMD, the two health care providers that merged in 2019, the enterprise represents the first merging of facilities — CityMD encourages walk-ins for its urgent care unit and Summit provides extensive diagnostic and other specialty treatments such as oncological procedures.

“Whether our patients need care in the moment or over a lifetime, we’re here to provide a uniquely connected approach to delivering urgent, primary and specialty care,” said Jeff Alter, CEO of Summit Health and CityMD.

The CityMD portion of the building resembles a hospital emergency room, with 19 examination areas. The new combined facility expects to provide urgent care coupled with the Summit diagnostic facilities.

"There's a lot of cutting-edge technology in the hub," Chief Physician Executive Adam Barrison said.

One of the benefits, Summit officials said, is the ability to cut down on time for patients awaiting medical decisions. CityMD patients will have bloodwork or culture procedures done on-site, often within a half-hour.

Clifton Mayor James Anzaldi said the full utilization of the 11-acre site by the facility is a big win for the city. The business is expected to employ at least 150 and bring in more than $450,000 in property taxes.

"As we open this building, I was so excited about something different happening here," Anzaldi said. "We need to put food on people's tables and make sure people are healthy."

The facility features 18 specialties with 36 primary care and specialty physicians, to provide primary care, family medicine, dermatology, orthopedics, urology, breast care, imaging, lab and comprehensive cancer services, including infusion and radiation oncology.

For cancer patients, Summit's Clifton hub offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary care program and a range of services — medical oncology, infusion, surgical oncology specialties, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, imaging, an oncology lab and an infusion pharmacy — under one roof.

The hope is that the latest technology may lead to shorter exam times and better quality through conventional and advanced imaging.

These include MRI, PET/CT scans (including prostate cancer exams), nuclear imaging, general and vascular ultrasound, screening and diagnostic 3D mammography, stereotactic and ultrasound biopsy, X-ray and fluoroscopy, and bone density testing.
