One adult, two children found dead in Memphis after severe storms Friday

Two children and one adult were found dead in Memphis, with their deaths believed to be connected to the severe storms that passed through the area Friday night.

At about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Memphis Police Department officers responded to the 3100 block of South Edgeware Road in Oakhaven regarding a report of trees that had fallen onto several houses in the neighborhood.

MPD officers and other first responders later located two children and an adult who were pronounced dead on the scene. The incident is believed to be connected to the storms that impacted the area on Friday, according to MPD.

Confirmed or suspected tornadoes throughout the country struck 11 states and destroyed homes and businesses, splintered trees and lay waste to neighborhoods.

Residents across a wide swath of the U.S. South and Midwest raced to assess the destruction Sunday wreaked by storms that dropped possibly dozens of tornadoes and killed at least 27 people in small towns and big cities.

The dead included nine people in McNairy County in Tennessee, four people in the small town of Wynne, Arkansas; four in Illinois; and three in Sullivan, Indiana.

Tennessee officials warned that the same weather conditions from Friday night are expected to return Tuesday.
