One chart shows you how incredible the iPhone 6’s sales numbers really are
So we already know that Apple sold more than 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units over the weekend, which in itself is a hugely impressive achievement. However, Apple’s massive weekend iPhone sales only look more impressive if you compare them with sales of past product launches, as Asymco’s Horace Dediu did on Monday when he posted the following chart on Twitter.

Per Dediu’s calculations, Apple sold well over 3 million iPhone 6 units per day, an astonishing number that doesn’t even include any sales to consumers in China, which just happens to be the world’s biggest smartphone market.
Where this really gets impressive, however, is when you look at the launch figures for Samsung’s hugely popular Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 smartphones. While those two devices both sold extremely well, it took them much longer to reach the kind of sales that Apple got over just one weekend with the iPhone 6. The Galaxy S4, for instance, was the fastest selling Android phone ever released — and it still took Samsung roughly a month to hit the 10 million sales mark that Apple hit in less than half a week.
All told, despite the hectoring from some idiot analysts who have been saying for years that Apple is on the verge of irrelevance, it looks like the company’s iPhone business has never been better.
