One in custody after suspected arson at Walmart in Hollywood

One person is in custody following a fire inside of a Walmart in Hollywood Saturday afternoon that may have been arson, police say.

Hollywood Police responded to the Walmart on State Road 7 a little before 5 p.m. Saturday, said Deanna Bettineschi, a spokesperson for the police department. Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue had already responded. When officers arrived, there was a small fire remaining inside.

Fire Rescue extinguished the flames, Bettineschi said. Everyone was evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

One person was detained, but Bettineschi couldn’t provide any details on the person’s identity.

The Walmart was closed, she said at little after 6 p.m., and the Fire Marshall was en route to the scene.
