Update: Utica police identify man killed in crash on Route 790

Utica police have identified the man killed in a crash late Tuesday night on Route 790, as well as the man left in critical condition from the crash.

Utica police and firefighters responded around 9:10 p.m. to the crash just past the Route 12 southbound ramp, where they found 29-year-old Quadre Deberry, of Utica and 19-year-old Todd Janicke, of Whitesboro. Police said in a release they found the two apparently ejected from their vehicle, which had come to rest on its roof.

Both Deberry and Janicke were brought to the St. Elizabeth campus of Mohawk Valley Health Systems, where Deberry was pronounced dead. Janicke remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

"Please keep Quadre's family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Utica police said in a statement.

The crash remains under investigations as police work to reconstruct the incident. Preliminary results show speed was a factor, Utica police Sgt. Michael Curley said.
