Authorities identify person killed in ATV-deer collision in rural Des Moines County

Authorities have released the name of the man who died after being injured in an ATV accident involving a deer in rural Des Moines County early Sunday.

Treyton Hartman, 25, died after the ATV he was driving collided with a deer, according to the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office.

Just after 2 a.m., the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of 120th Avenue North and 260th Street for a report of an ATV accident involving two individuals. Both Hartman and a 23-year-old passenger were ejected from the vehicle after hitting the deer, according to the sheriff's office.

Hartman died as a result of his injuries. The passenger was taken to Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries and was later released.

The incident remains under investigation and additional details are expected to be released as they become available.

The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wapello Iowa Ambulance Service, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office and the Mediapolis Fire Department.
