One dead in Downtown El Paso car crash, police say

One person died in a car crash early Sunday in Downtown El Paso, police said.

Details had yet to be released regarding the crash at Stanton Street and Missouri Avenue as an investigation by the police Special Traffic Investigations Unit continued Sunday.

Photos taken by Channel 14-KFOX showed a tow truck carrying away silver sports car and a SUV with smashed fronts. Metal fencing appeared to have been knocked down at a parking garage.

Motorcyclist killed in high-speed crash

A 24-year-old El Paso man died at a hospital a day after being critically injured in a motorcycle crash late Wednesday night near the Valle Verde campus of El Paso Community College, police said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., Seville Gaines was riding a 2013 Kawasaki ZX600 at a high speed southbound on Hawkins Boulevard when he lost control at a curve in the road and hit the median near Phoenix Avenue, El Paso police said.

Gaines, who was wearing a helmet, was severely injured when he was thrown in the motorcycle crash, police said. He died a day later at a hospital.

Gaines was originally from Florida and was a U.S. Army veteran, according to an obituary and GoFundMe page raising donations for funeral expenses.

ATV driver killed in crash identified

The driver of an all-terrain vehicle who died in a collision in the Red Sands desert last weekend has been identified by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office as 21-year-old Joshua Anthony Miramontes of Horizon City.

Miramontes died after a collision involving two ATVs on Jan. 29 in the recreational sand dunes off Montana Avenue east of El Paso. A sheriff's investigation into the collision continues.
