One dead after fall from Ohio Stadium stands during commencement ceremony

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One person is dead after falling from the stands at Ohio Stadium during the Ohio State University commencement ceremony on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Ohio State confirmed that one person fell from the stands of the stadium near the Bell Tower during graduation and that police and emergency responders remain on the scene.

The university spokesperson said counseling and other resources will be available for anyone affected by the incident.

Ohio State’s 2024 spring commencement ceremony began at noon and concluded by 3 p.m. According to the university spokesperson, the incident did not impact graduation proceedings.

Some of those leaving the graduation ceremony encountered police tape and campus police and first responders at the scene.
