One person is dead after a house fire in east Redding on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 2:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of Capricorn Way just west of Shasta View Drive.

When crews arrived, there was light smoke showing from the house.

Firefighters went inside the house and brought out one person who was pronounced dead at the scene, said Camber Dietrich, a fire prevention specialist with the Redding Fire Department. Dietrich did not say whether it was a man or woman.

Crews extinguished the fire about five minutes after arriving. The Redding Fire Department estimated damage to the home and contents was about $3,300, and the house was worth about $400,000.

Dietrich believed a neighbor reported the fire, which was put out quickly after crews arrived.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
