Javen David Ramsey-Rushin killed in crash in the Highlands neighborhood

Javen David Ramsey-Rushin died and five others were injured Sunday morning after a fatal crash in the Highlands neighborhood, Louisville Metro Police said.

Fifth Division officers responded to a call about a vehicle collision around 2 a.m. on Lexington Road near Grinstead Drive, LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said. He said the preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Lexington Road with six people when the driver lost control and struck a guardrail.

The vehicle then continued against the guardrail, hitting several trees, according to court records.

Ramsey-Rushin was pronounced dead on the scene from blunt force injuries, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

Five other people, including the driver, were taken to the University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Mitchell said.

LMPD arrested Daniel Bell in connection with the crash, according to court documents. He was allegedly traveling at an "excessively high rate of speed" and apparently told police he was the driver of a Dodge Charger.

Bell was charged with murder along with several counts of wanton endangerment, court records show.

An arraignment is scheduled for Monday morning, documents show.
