Truck driver struck, killed on Lexington Ave. in Rochester; driver charged

A 51-year-old truck driver is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Lexington Avenue Tuesday in Rochester.

Gene Kulp, of Red Creek, NY, was operating a tractor trailer when he pulled over to the side of the road at Lexington Avenue and Curlew Street about 1 a.m. to address mechanical issues, according to Rochester police.

Police said as Kulp was at the rear of the tractor trailer, a vehicle driven by Jeff Eden, 53, struck Kulp. The crash caused Kulp to be pinned between the rear of the rig and the other vehicle, police said.

Kulp died at the scene, police said.

Eden remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. He has been charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation.

He was expected to be arraigned in Rochester City Court Tuesday morning.
