Motorcyclist killed in crash on Scottsville Road in Chili identified

A 22-year-old man died following a two-vehicle crash in Chili Tuesday night.

Deputy Brendan Hurley of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said that the crash occurred on Scottsville Road, near Air Park Road, around 6:15 p.m.

A motorcyclist, identified as Ethan Sulik-Doty, of Whiting, Vermont, was traveling north "at a high rate of speed" and crashed into the passenger side of a southbound van as the van turned into Air Park Drive, Hurley said.

Sulik-Doty was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Hurley said. He died from those injuries at the hospital.

Sulik-Doty was a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Henrietta. He arrived at the university in the fall of 2019 and was working towards his master's degree in electrical engineering as a BS/MS student in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, according to university officials.

"Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones as they cope with their tremendous heartbreak and grief," Sandra Johnson, RIT's senior vice president for student affairs, said in a letter to the RIT community. Grief counselors are available for RIT students.

A stretch of Scottsville Road was closed Tuesday, so deputies could investigate, but later reopened. The scene is just south of the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport.

Deputies continue to investigate the crash.
