One dead in McCutchenville crash Thursday

Bucyrus Post troopers are investigating a fatal crash involving a passenger bus and a motorcycle in McCutchenville, Wyandot County, Thursday at 6:23 p.m., the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in its press release.

A 2014 Ford E450 passenger bus driven by Sara Wax, 77, from Tuffin, Ohio, was traveling northbound on Clay Street with 20 passengers. A 1994 Kawasaki ZX1100 motorcycle driven by Daniel Smalley, 33, from McCutchenville was traveling westbound on Perry Street.

“The Kawasaki failed to yield for a stop sign and struck the Ford,” the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Smalley was pronounced deceased at the scene, and Wax and the passengers of the bus did not report any injuries. After the collision, both vehicles traveled off the northeast side of the intersection.

Smalley was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, said the troopers. Whether alcohol or drugs were a factor is unknown at this time. Relatives of the deceased were notified. The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Wyandot County Sheriff Office, Sycamore Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Carey EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Hensley’s Towing.
