1 killed, 1 injured in head-on collision Friday on Old Pacific Highway in Thurston County
A Rochester woman was killed in a head-on collision between her vehicle and one driven by a Yelm woman on Friday morning on Old Pacific Highway east of Lacey.
According to a news release from Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred at 9:18 a.m. A Rochester woman was driving east as she approached Rockcress Drive. The Yelm driver was traveling west. The Rochester woman approached a curve in the road and crossed the center line.
The Rochester woman’s vehicle struck the Yelm driver’s vehicle head-on and came to rest in the middle of the two lanes, blocking the road. The other car stopped in a driveway on the right shoulder of the road.
According to the release, the Rochester woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The other woman, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia with injuries.
The exact cause of the collision is under investigation. WSP trooper Robert Reyer said WSP was joined at the scene by WSDOT Tacoma and Lacey Fire District 3. He said the road was closed for about 2-1/2 hours.
The name of the woman who died is being withheld until next of kin have been notified, according to the release.
