One dead, one injured in Mansfield crash

Nov. 8—STORRS MANSFIELD — A motor vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon in Storrs Mansfield claimed the life of one man and caused minor injuries to another.

Connecticut State Police said that at approximately 4 p.m., Roy Herzlich, a 60-year-old Bloomfield man, was driving his motorcycle westbound on Middle Turnpike in Storrs Mansfield. According to State Police, Robert Kowalsky, a 71-year-old East Hartford man, was driving his motorcycle behind Herzlich.

Luke Silver, a 21-yearold man from New York City, was driving a car eastbound on Middle Turnpike in Storrs Mansfield, according to State Police. Silver was driving with one pas senger, Cassandra George, a 21-year-old woman from Glastonbury.

State Police said that Silver's vehicle struck Herzlich's motorcycle head on.

Kowalsky's motorcy- cle then collided with Herzlich's vehicle, according to State Police.

State Police said that Herzlich suffered fatal inju- ries in the collision while Kowalsky reported minor injuries. Kowalsky was transported to Windham Hospital.

State Police said that the collision occurred on Middle Turnpike, 1,250 feet east of the intersection with Bone Mill Road. Silver and George had no apparent injuries as a result of the collision.

Neither were transported to the hospital.

Herzlich's vehicle sustained damage to the front of the motorcycle. Kowalsky's vehicle sustained damage to the front and left side of the motor- cycle. The car driven by Silver sustained damage to the front of the vehicle.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene of the accident by Showcase Auto.
