One dead, one seriously injured in crash on I-295 at Meadowville Road

ENON − One person was killed and another seriously injured when their vehicle went over an embankment and turned over on Interstate 295 Thursday morning..

A Chesterfield Police spokesperson said the wreck happened around 10 a.m. on Meadowville Road near its I-295 overpass. A pickup truck towing a trailer was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer across a double-yellow line, but was forced back into their lane by an oncoming car.

When the truck got back into its lane, it clipped the tractor-trailer. The impact forced the pickup over a guardrail and down an embankment, overturning and landing on its roof in the southbound lanes of I-295.

A passenger in the pickup died at the scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police have not released the name of the person who died pending notification of family.

An investigation is ongoing.

Meadowville Road was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
